African-Americans we must see ourselves as more than what society portray us to be. We have a tendency to turn everything about race, we cannot keep this "slave" mentality, we are not slaves anymore, but we enslave ourselves. Every white person is not a racist, just like every black person is not a thug or poor. We must value ourselves as a people in order for society to value us, how can we expect society to look as us differently if we can't see ourselves differently. What do I mean by that? well lets see most of our males walk around showing every thing underneath their pants, most of our women show everything God gave us and leave nothing to the imagination. Yes other races do it too, but as a Black person in America we are already looked at in major discriminatory ways, why must we keep drawing other negative attention to ourselves. We complain about a system failing us, but we continuously fail ourselves, and in the words of W.E.B DuBois "A system cannot fail those it was never meant to protect" so stop complaining about the system and start taking a stand to change the system and yourselves. Black people we must start with ourselves first and work our way into the rest of America, but society will not protect ignorance and it will not listen to another ignorant black person, let's leave ignorance and get knowledgeable about the things we need and want to change. Knowledge is power and the smarter we are the harder it will be for them to fool us. We must remember the most important thing first.
